AltoTrail (“we”, “us”) provides a job search assistant that helps you find job listings and generate draft documents (such as a CV and cover letter) based on the information you provide. This policy explains what data we process and why.

Who is responsible for your data

Data controller: Johan Lundgren
Contact: info@altotrail.com

What data we process

  • Information you enter: For example target role/title, free-text profile information, and optional search preferences.
  • Generated content: Draft CV and cover letter text generated from your inputs.
  • Technical data: Basic logs needed to operate and secure the service (for example request timing, error logs, and abuse prevention signals).
  • Local device storage: We may store small settings in your browser (for example theme preference) to improve usability. This data stays in your browser unless you clear it.

Saved favourites, saved jobs and browser remembering

AltoTrail stores your saved favourites, saved jobs and saved job details on its server. The first-party altotrail_owner cookie contains a random browser credential, not the saved items. It restricts access to your sessions and saved items. It is set when a session starts, which may happen when you open a tool before saving anything. It is a session cookie, with no persistent lifetime. Some browsers restore session cookies when they reopen.

Remembering this browser after the browser session is optional. After you save an item, you can choose Yes in “Privacy settings”. Only that explicit choice enables the separate first-party altotrail_remember cookie. It contains the same random browser credential. It lasts up to 180 days and is renewed when a session starts, but never beyond 365 days after your latest Yes. Passive use does not renew that choice. We ask again during an interaction near the end of those 365 days.

Open “Privacy settings” in the footer at any time to choose Yes or No. No stops future remembering and asks the browser to remove the remembering cookie; your current sessions and saved items remain available. The server records your latest choice and rejects remembered recovery after withdrawal or expiry, including an old cookie that a delayed response might put back. This does not promise immediate physical removal from every inactive browser page.

The latest choice is stored with your saved items: its revision, decision and time, plus the latest Yes date, validity end, notice version and language. That record has no browser credential, network address or browser software information. Passive renewal does not rewrite it. A small local browser setting suppresses repeat prompts for 180 days after No. It contains only the notice version and refusal end time, with no identifier. Closing the dialog makes no choice and suppresses prompts only during the current page visit.

Anyone using this browser profile may be able to access its saved items. They are not synchronised across devices, and there is no account recovery. Clearing or blocking the cookies, or letting the remembering cookie expire, may prevent access without deleting the server copies. You can remove individual items through the tool where you saved them. For other deletion requests, contact info@altotrail.com. These cookie periods do not extend working-session, generated-document or server-data retention. Theme preferences and other local settings use separate browser storage.

Optional usage statistics

In “Privacy settings” you can separately allow or refuse usage statistics. Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, measures page views and interactions to help us improve AltoTrail. Analytics is not loaded before Yes, and pages that exclude analytics keep that exclusion even when you change this setting.

No stops new measurement events on this page and prevents analytics loading on later eligible pages. Events prepared before No can still finish sending. This does not retract information already sent or promise removal of existing Google cookies. Your choice is stored locally until you change it or clear browser storage. If that local write fails, the dialog identifies the choice as applying to this page only.

Google Analytics uses first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_*) to recognise browsers and visits. They can remain for up to two years and are renewed while analytics is on. Your browser may shorten this period. If analytics has already started, a new Yes after No takes effect when you open or reload a page. Analytics and saved-item remembering are separate choices. Google’s Privacy Policy explains its data handling.

Google Analytics is configured to retain event data for 2 months and user data for 14 months. New user activity restarts the user-data retention period. These settings do not apply to most standard reports based on aggregated data. They are separate from the cookie lifetimes described above. Google Analytics’ optional user-provided data collection feature is not enabled for AltoTrail.

AI processing and generated content

The Service uses automated systems to generate text suggestions and documents. Generated outputs may be incomplete or inaccurate and should always be reviewed and edited by the user before being used in job applications.

Work interests

When you use Work interests, your questionnaire answers remain in your browser and the interest profile is calculated there, whether you answer 30 questions or continue to 60. The six aggregated interest scores are sent to AltoTrail's server to find occupation suggestions, together with your preparation level if you select one. Raw answers are not sent.

After you complete the questionnaire, your answers and preparation choice are kept in this page's browser history so Back can restore your result and let you change your answers. Unfinished additional answers may be lost when you reload or leave the page. Completing all 60 questions replaces the current 30-question result and its saved answers in this page's browser history. Changing answers invalidates the corresponding result and removes its saved questionnaire snapshot from the current history entry when your browser allows the change. Your browser may save this information to disk and restore it after a restart. Start over clears the saved answers and preparation choice from the current history entry when your browser allows the change; copies may remain in other tabs or the browser's session recovery data. AltoTrail does not save the assessment profile on its server or link it to an account, email address, job alert, or application. The application route is not designed to log the six interest scores.

What we do NOT do

  • We do not send your personal information to employers.
  • We do not publish your profile or generated documents publicly.
  • We do not sell your data.

Why we process data

  • To provide the service: run job searches and generate drafts you request.
  • To maintain security and reliability: prevent abuse, diagnose errors, and improve stability.

Legal basis (GDPR)

  • Performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)): to deliver the features you request.
  • Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): to secure and operate the service responsibly.
  • Consent (Article 6(1)(a)): optional remembering of this browser after its session. You can withdraw that choice through the footer. This choice does not set a retention period or a legal basis for all other server data.

AI processing and third parties

When you generate documents, your input text may be processed by an AI service provider acting as a processor on our behalf (for example, OpenAI). We only send what is necessary to generate the requested output.

Job listing sources

AltoTrail may retrieve job listing data from external sources (for example national or European job portals). Job listings remain the property of their respective providers. Users should verify details on the original source before applying.

Retention

We aim to minimize retention. Your browser may keep local settings until you clear them. Server-side data (such as logs) is retained only as long as necessary for security and operations, then deleted or anonymized.

Ordinary infrastructure may process technical request information such as network address, request path, timing, response status, and error information. Operational retention and access controls apply to this technical information. AltoTrail does not place Work interests answers or scores in page URLs.

Your rights

Depending on your situation, you may have the right to access, rectify, delete, or restrict processing of your data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise your rights, contact us at info@altotrail.com.

Complaints

If you are in the EU/EEA and believe we handle your data unlawfully, you can lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Sweden, this is IMY (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten).

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data. No system is perfectly secure, and you should avoid entering sensitive information you do not want processed.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the effective date above.
